Morgan Sindall are one of the top five main contractors in the UK. The Eastern division of their construction and infrastructure business has established offices in Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich.

In 2021 the business expanded to open their first Essex-based office in Chelmsford. Aphra were appointed to work with the Area Director and Business Development Manager (BDM) to establish relationships with key clients across the county and support on the production of impactful bid documents. Morgan Sindall already had a presence in the county through the Essex County Council Construction Framework. However, the Regional and Area Director identified an opportunity to expand their market share in the region.

The Strategy and Expertise

Our Sales Director, Matt Jolly, previously spent 5-years as a pre-construction manager for a medium sized main contractor. During his tenure he built an extensive network of client and consultant contacts which he still maintains today. Through his and Aphra’s existing connections in the sector, we were able to quickly develop a pipeline of further contacts and tender opportunities which fed into the work their BDM was doing across the Eastern region (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex). Aphra’s existing and strong relationships in this sector enabled us to provide valuable intelligence on developments in the region, identifying key contacts and creating approach strategies.

The Bid

Aphra identified a new 130,000sqft logistics facility as an opportunity for the company. This previously unidentified project became a target project for the Essex office. Aphra was able to form and build a relationship with the Employer’s Agent and secure a position on the tender shortlist. This included Aphra producing the capability document shown in the visuals.

Morgan Sindall were the first to engage with the client on this project thanks to Aphra’s strategic collaboration.

The Aphra team have gone on to support a number of bids for Morgan Sindall, producing high-quality pre-qualification and tender documents that use innovative techniques, such as embedded video content, to generate maximum impact.
